Riassunto

La presenza di diversi schemi di certificazione forestale sta ponendo il problema del coordinamento tra le varie iniziative nel settore, necessario anche per non disorientare i consumatori in una fase critica di espansione del mercato dei prodotti legnosi certificati. Per questa ragione sta crescendo l'attenzione verso il mutuo riconoscimento tra differenti schemi di certificazione forestale. Tali attività  non incontrano, però il pavore di tutti i soggetti coinvolti nella materia, causa il timore di vedere indebolita la credibilità  e l'efficacia di alcuni schemi. L'articolo fa il punto su queste tematiche con riferimento al panorama delle iniziative internazionali e alla situazione italiana.

Nutual recognition among forest certification schemes: opportunities, prospects and problems

Abstract

The increasing demand in Western markets for certified forest products is stimulating a growth in the number of forest management and chain of custody certification schemes all round the world. Some stakeholders believe that this proliferation is a positive trend; it helps to stress the role of wood as a renewable resource that can be produced in a sustainable way. On the other hand the use of different schemes and labels risks to induce confusion between consumers. Anyway since 2000 several intiatives devoted to facilitate mutual recognition between differente schemes or - at least - to facilitate exchange of information and mutual understanding have been developing. The paper describes the main problems and perspectives connected with mutual recognition with reference to the international and national dialogue around this issue.
