Questo contributo vuole essere una breve panoramica su quello che sono oggi le foreste in Albania, ponendo una particolare attenzione verso la selvicoltura e le utilizzazioni nei boschi di faggio (Fagus selvatica), senza dubbio la specie più rappresentativa.

The Albania forests. Fagus sylvatica forests silviculture and utilizations

Abstract

The forests are an important component of environment in Albania considering the fact that they occupy nearly 1.031.000 ha of the country. 36,6% of this surface, and a volume of 47% of the total volume, is composed by Fagus sylvatica forests, the most representative specie. This is way the study of silvicolture and utilizations of these forests, in different of Albania and different periods, could be of interest to establish new goals for their preservation. It is important, for the future, to evaluate the right silvicultural intervention, and new utilization methodologies, in this forests, considering the fact that the past experience has not been very generous. It is also important to stress the prevention of illegal logging, as a very negative phenomenon, that goes on even nowadays though fortunately not in the same dimensions as before.
